Tourism in numbers: arrivals, nights and foreign guests in BiH and Republika Srpska

An overview of official 2025 tourism statistics for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska. It is meant for owners of accommodation and restaurants and for tour operators who plan seasons, prices and target markets. Figures for East Herzegovina and individual municipalities are not given in this article.

In short

• BiH 2025: 1,963,443 arrivals (+0.3%) and 4,083,977 overnight stays (+1.0%) compared with 2024.
• Republika Srpska 2025: 514,740 arrivals (+4.4%) and 1,207,068 overnight stays (+2.6%), the fourth record year in a row for overnight stays.
• Foreign guests account for 70.3% of overnight stays in BiH. The average stay is 2.1 nights per arrival.
• July and August are the strongest months, February the weakest.

Guests by country

Share of foreign overnight stays in BiH in 2025:

• Croatia 14.1%, Serbia 10.9%, Turkey 9.7%
• Slovenia 5.9%, Saudi Arabia 5.6%, Germany 4.4%
• China 3.8%, USA 3.4%, Italy 3.1%

In Republika Srpska the most overnight stays came from tourists from Serbia (202,996), then Croatia (155,536), Slovenia (89,378), Turkey (36,422) and Montenegro (33,474).

The mix changes through the year. In July guests from Saudi Arabia (15.4% of foreign nights) and Turkey (12.8%) lead; in October Croatia (12.0%) and Serbia (10.7%); in December Croatia has 25.1% and Serbia 13.1%.

Seasonality in BiH

Overnight stays by month in 2025 (from the monthly releases; values may differ slightly from the final figures):

August has about 2.5 times the overnight stays of February. July, August and September together give about 35% of the year's nights.

Republika Srpska: structure

• Domestic guests: 206,133 arrivals and 517,384 overnight stays (+7.9%). Foreign guests: 308,607 arrivals and 689,684 overnight stays (-1.1%).
• By type of place: other tourist places 579,304 nights, spa towns 403,412, mountain places 144,135, other places 80,217.
• By type of accommodation: hotels and similar 1,097,525 nights, health resorts 86,974, campsites 16,724, holiday facilities for short breaks 5,845.

What follows from this

1. Plan capacity and prices by season: summer brings about a third of nights, while January and February give less than half of August's nights.
2. Target markets that fill the off-season: guests from Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia dominate in October and December.
3. The statistics record only registered guests in registered accommodation. By type of accommodation in BiH, hotels and similar make up 93.7% of nights, resorts and similar facilities for short breaks 3.4%, campsites 0.8% and other accommodation 2.2%. Ask the Agency for Statistics of BiH which category your property falls into.
4. The data cover the whole country and the entity. For Herzegovina and individual municipalities, check the tables of the Republički zavod za statistiku (Republic Institute of Statistics).
