The Republic Statistics Office publishes average farm product prices: monthly from green markets and quarterly from purchase and sales reports. The figures cover all of Republika Srpska and exclude subsidies and VAT, so use them as a benchmark, not as a ready price for your farm.
The price a customer pays at a green market and the price a farm gets from a buyer or processor are not the same, and official statistics track both. The data are published by the Republički zavod za statistiku Republike Srpske (RZS, Republic Statistics Office). The figures in this text are for 2025, from the quality report published on 04.05.2026. Pricing a guest package is covered in the article on pricing an agro-tourism package.
In short
- RZS publishes three releases: monthly "Value of agricultural products sold at green markets", quarterly "Purchase and sales of agricultural, forestry and fishery products", and quarterly "Price indices in agriculture".
- In 2025 the data came from 28 registered markets, 122 businesses buying from family farms and 265 businesses selling their own produce.
- The average producer price excludes subsidies, premiums, rebates and VAT.
- The published releases give an average for all of Republika Srpska, with no separate prices for Trebinje, Bileća or Gacko.
- Data come out with a delay: about 30 days for monthly figures, about 51 days for quarterly purchase and sales figures, and about 55 days for price indices, counted from the end of the period.
What RZS publishes and what to look for
- Green markets (monthly). Quantities, values and average prices of products sold, compared with the same period last year and with the previous month. This is the price a producer gets when selling directly to consumers at an organised market.
- Purchase and sales (quarterly). Average prices of selected products in purchases from family farms, in sales of own produce by businesses, and in total. The purchase price is what a farm receives when it sells to a business, for example a buyer or processor.
- Price indices in agriculture (quarterly). Indices of selling prices of farm products and of purchase prices of production inputs. The base year is 2020, meaning 2020 equals 100.
The data are also in the online database on the RZS website, in the Monthly Statistical Review and in the Statistical Yearbook of Republika Srpska. Microdata on individual businesses are not available.
How to read the numbers
- Market and purchase prices are different. The market price is usually higher than the purchase price, because you sell directly to the consumer and carry the effort and cost of selling yourself. Check this for your own product before treating it as a rule. Do not compare the two as if they were the same price.
- Prices exclude subsidies and VAT. If you receive a premium per head or per hectare, it is not counted in the published price.
- The average covers all of Republika Srpska. Prices depend on quality, season and place. Ljubinje kajmak or Herzegovina honey may sell above or below the average.
- Watch the trend, not just one number. Comparison with the same period last year shows whether prices are rising or falling, and the input price index shows whether your costs are rising.
- The data describe a past period. The price you see in a release today was paid by buyers one to two months earlier.
Using the data when setting a price
- In the release, find the product you sell and the same sales channel (market or purchase).
- Use the average of the last three months or of the same period last year, not a single month.
- Work out your real cost and add the profit you want. If the average price is below your cost and you have no other sales channel, consider processing or selling directly to guests.
- Check the local price at the Trebinje market or with the buyer you sell to, because the releases do not give prices by municipality.
- A processed product, or one with a label or known origin (cheese, rakija, honey, jam), can reach a higher price than the raw material average. Use the statistical average for raw material as a starting point.
Release dates
In 2025 monthly data were published about 30 days after the month they cover. Quarterly purchase and sales data came out on 20.05, 20.08, 20.11 and 20.02 of the next year, and price indices on 26.05, 25.08, 25.11 and 25.02. Check the publication calendar for this year's dates.
